Soaring at Paper Crafting World

It’s Paper Crafting World design team post day!  February is perfect for a card with hearts, so I picked this Bear with Heart Balloons Cut File.  It’s our opportunity, as design team members, to try to show you how to think outside the box when using these files.  I tried to do that here by showing you a way you can make the little bear “soar” up the card.

For the base, I started with a cut file by Kolette Hall purchased in the Silhouette Store; making a few changes to it for my purposes.  Although this file is referred to as an interactive card, there is no slider mechanism, so I made one.  If you want to make your own Slider Mechanism, it’s pretty easy.  I have a template for you on the Hints, Tips & Tutorials page.

And here’s a look at the bear  along the slider:

I cut the bear and balloons from Stampin’ Up card stock scraps.  In addition to cutting the individual pieces on my Silhouette Cameo, I also welded all the pieces to form a base on which to attach all the pieces.  I did this to ensure placement exactly as desired and to provide additional thickness/strength to the piece as it will be pulled up the length of the card.  The front panel was filled with digital paper from the I {Heart} You kit by TheDigiChick.

The bear’s face was created with the help of Melinda Beltran’s tutorial on Creating Faces.  You can also find a link to this tutorial on my Links You’ll Love page.  I refer to this every time I want to draw in a face…I still have a LOT of practice ahead of me.  One final touch was to coat the balloons with Crystal Effects.

The sentiment appears on the back panel, made with the Creative Keepsakes Curly font and color matched to the digital paper.  As an accent I converted just the balloons to a print file.  After I print and cut it, I realized I needed a bit more weight on the back to counter-balance the front, so I also cut the hearts and placed them on top of the printed hearts.

As an afterthought, I added a little tab behind the bear’s head that says, “pull” so the recipient knows what to do.  I forgot to take a picture of that, but I’m sure you can picture what I’m saying.

Wow that slider is so well hidden that I didn’t even realize it was one until reading and looking at the pictures. It makes it like magic when he does move up the card.
