No Housework Day!

Today, April 7th, is “No Housework Day”. That’s right, no dusting or vacuuming, no cleaning the toilets, no laundry, no dishes, no nuthin’!  And no guilt, either…because it’s a national holiday and we all observe them, don’t we?  Can I get an Amen?

In the most recent study I could find, which was 2014, a survey revealed women spend 11-and-a-half hours a week on housework.  Twice as many hours as their male counterparts, I might add.  All women surveyed agreed that cleaning the bathroom and ironing are the most dreaded of household chores.  I guess women are too busy cleaning the house to participate in a newer study.

Additionally, the study indicated over 25% of cohabiting couples argue over division of household duties.

So I had a choice today of cleaning the bathroom or making this card…guess you can see which I chose!

Housework wm 1

The inspiration for my card came from the adorable Bugaboo Stamps digital image of their character, JJ, and her feelings about housework.  I always do housework in a dress and heels, don’t you?  I laugh, but when I think back to when I was small, I remember my mother dressed very nicely while cleaning…you know, the days before sweat pants!

I saw a card on Pinterest with a split front and the focal image spanning the two and thought it would be perfect for this card, so it made designing an easy job!

The designer paper is Domestic Goddess from Stampin’ Up.  I picked my card stock colors of Pool Party and Daffodil Delight from it and printed my image and sentiment on Whisper White.  I colored JJ in with Copics, again using the designer paper as a guide.  You can’t see it well, I don’t think, but I made the dress plaid and the apron polka-dotted, taking my cues from the patterns in the paper.

If I were making this card again, I think I would emboss the front of the card base and focal panel base with the Fancy Fan embossing folder.  You wouldn’t notice it from the front, but it would make for a more appealing look from the inside.  If you click on the card, it will take you to the gallery for more pictures, so you can see what I’m talking about.

Well, I’m off to do my Spring housecleaning now….I’m actually only caught up to Spring of 2007, but you won’t tell anyone, will you?

I’ve submitted this to the following challenges:

I have been taking too many of these holidays lately so today I will be doing a mountain of laundry! Fabulous card, Kim. I love this awesome background paper with JJ and this great layout which allows the sentiment to do double duty! Sensational!

FABulous card – great image and senti and I love that card design 😀
I’m definitely NOT houseworking today – I do as little as one possibly can when all your house is covered in tiles !!! but it looks ok most of the time 🙂 All Greek houses are tiled everywhere. I don’t DO ironing at all – I think the last thing I ironed was when I was making a skirt hahahaha With my weather, the clothes get put on the line and dry so quick and then they just get smoothed and put away again 🙂 pffft 🙂

Thank you for coming over to play at IKEsWORLD CHALLENGES.

Oh my goodness, Kim…your post makes me laugh (not the part about women doing the majority of the housework, of course), but your writing style! Engaging and entertaining! I do most of the ‘chores’ in our place because I’m picky; easier for me to do it then trail after my husband, re-doing what he’s done. He’d do a fabulous job, alright..but I like ‘my’ way better. He does have his tasks (cooking and grocery shopping, both of which drive me crazy…although I do the salads) and those are done to A++++ status! Your card: awesome! Delighted with your holiday theme and sooooo glad you shared in the ATSM gallery!

I hear you Carol! I can never delegate as I’m just like you. I certainly appreciate your kind words about my writing style…that makes my day!

I'd love to hear from you. I so appreciate your comments!
