Miss Kate Cuttables Challenge-Hearts

Before I share my challenge project, I want to extend a warm welcome to two new followers, Barbara and Christi.  Thank you so much for joining us!

The challenge at Miss Kate Cuttables this month is, appropriately, “Hearts”.  I wanted to go in a un-traditional direction and you don’t get much more “un” traditional than using a monkey in a heart themed challenge, but I did just that.  I used the Monkey on Vine, I’m Bananas for You Title and Valentine’s Banana.

Before I show you my card, I want to remind you that Miss Kate offers a free cut file each and every day.  You can get yours here

I decided to make the monkey swing from the vine, so I made this a spinner card…so I guess that means technically he’s spinning from the vine.  I also made it a tri-fold as I wanted to use the title inside my card, but didn’t want to view it through the oval.

The base, in Tempting Turquoise, was cut to 5 1/2″ x 12″ and scored at 4″ and 8″.  I inserted an oval on the front, sized large enough to accommodate the spinning monkey. The monkey was created by cutting the .png image and a mirror image for the two-sided spinner.  I did the same with the vines and bananas.

I attached a 5 1/4″ length of clear thread between the two sides of the monkey and stretched it across the opening, attaching it securely at both top and bottom.  Here’s a little video so you can see the monkey spin.  I find it almost impossible to operate the camera with one hand and open the card with the other…the quality of the video will attest to that.

To cover the ends of the thread and add some pizzazz, I created a mat using digital paper from the  All Heart Kit by Melissa Bennett.

For the panel behind the opening, I color matched the background to the darker green in the vines and then randomly placed the vines on top…in essence I created my own digital paper.

For the sentiment, I used the I’m Bananas for You Title; changing on the color on one of the words to match the card stock.  Using the .png image made this a snap!

So now it’s your turn to enter the challenge at Miss Kate’s Facebook Group.  The requirements for the challenge is to follow the theme of the month and use a Miss Kate Cuttable’s file in your creation, including any/all freebies you have.  The challenge will run from today through the 4th Tuesday of each month.  Winners will be announced, in the group, Friday of challenge end week.  Remember this month’s theme is hearts.  Good luck!
