A Color Challenge at Connie Can Crop

The first of the month brings another Connie Can Crop challenge.  This month it’s a colors challenge and these colors are just perfect for the summer months ahead.  Let’s take a look at the color palette she gave us to work with:

I printed this out and matched my Copic markers to it for a near perfect match to each color, yet when you look at the card on the computer (at least my computer) it doesn’t appear to match.  I’m curious if you see the same thing I do.  Well anyway, here’s my card:

Color Challenge for July at Connie Can CropI Chews. I used an adorable image by Craftin' Desert Divas/ You wm 1

Since our sponsor for the challenge and the blog hop later this month is Craftin’ Desert Divas, I opted to use one of their adorable images, the Bear With Gumball Machine.  Since the image is tall, it lent itself well to a 9 1/4″ x 4″ card (that fits in a business sized envelope).  So I sized it to fit in my Silhouette Design Studio.  I thought it would look cute if I cut out the center of the gumball machine, place acetate behind it and lift it with mounting tape, so that’s just what I did.  I tried to capture that in a picture, but this is the best I could manage:

I also printed bear two additional times so I could cut out selective pieces and pop them as well.  I think this makes all the difference on cards, the little details.  Here’s a close-up of that as well.  You can just see I popped the greeting as well.

For the sentiment, I decided to play off the gumballs.  It’s corny, but cute.  I used Accent Dot Writer font in black.  I also dissected the bear in the Silhouette to create a companion image inside the card.  This time the little bear is blowing a bubble while raising his arms in the air.  Boy, when that bubble pops, he’s going to be a real mess!

Finally, I coated the gumball machine with Wink of Stella.  Before I mail this card off to a friend, I think I’m going to add a penny to the front with a glue dot.  I think I would be a cute addition with the gumball machine.  And here are the markers I used to color this card just in case you were interested in trying this yourself.

I sure hope I’ve inspired you to try your hand at entering the challenge at Connie Can Crop.  The winner is picked at random, so all have an equal chance to win.  In addition, the Design Team picks it’s Top 3.  If it’s you, you get a badge to place on your blog or Facebook page and bragging rights!  Go here and check it out.  If you don’t have a blog, but want to participate let me know and we can post your submission on my blog.

How cute!! I see the color problem with your printer, but it’s not that noticeable!
