A Year of Card Techniques Blog Hop-Creative Folds

Welcome to

Welcome to A Year of Card Techniques Blog Hop where each month we feature a different card technique.  We’ve assembled a team of card makers who range from new to advanced, so you’ll see a great variety of cards and ideas.

June‘s hop is devoted to basic card folds; featuring drapery/curtain fold, peek-a-boo fold or double-z gate-fold.  And we’re adding a twist of incorporating double-sided patterned paper.   We hope this gives you lots of ideas and will inspire you to try these card folds yourself…and pull out that double-sided paper as well!    If you would like to check out our past technique hops, you can do that here:

We have an amazing sponsor this month, Candy Spiegel.  Please take a moment to check out all the crafty goodness on her blog, Candy Scraps.

And the awesome prize this month is four stencils from Elizabeth Craft Designs:

We  really appreciate feedback, so please leave a comment on each of the blogs in the hop today.  While you are encouraged to comment at any time, only comments received by  Friday, June 23, 2017 at 8:00pm (EST) will be eligible to win.   The winner will be announced on Sunday,  June 25, 2017 on A Piece of (my) Heart’s blog, so be sure to check Sharon’s blog on Sunday to see if  YOU are the winner.

And speaking of winners, the lucky hopper from last month is SUSAN ELIOT; picked by Random Name Picker.  Congratulations, Susan!  Please get in touch with last month’s sponsor, Jodie Park, to claim your prize.

And I have a little give-away, too!  Do you attend the Stamp & Scrapbook Expo each year?  Well, if you do, you will be excited to hear I’m giving away two vouchers for free admission to any show (except New Jersey as they don’t participate 🙁 ).  The vouchers are good for the balance of the year.   I don’t know about you, but I would love to win these to have that much more money to spend inside the Expo…at the Eyelet Outlet booth!  For your chance to win, all you need to do is leave me a comment telling me if you use brads, eyelets or washi tape in your projects!

You should  have arrived here from my friend and awesome card maker, Claudia.  If you’re visiting  here first, you might want to start at the beginning so you don’t miss a thing and increase your chances of winning by commenting on  each blog.

Now to my projects:

I decided to make one card in each of the basic fold categories we were given as I’d never made any cards with these folds previously.  First up, the Double Z Gate-fold Card:

To Lift Your Spirits wm 1

As much as I’d like to say this card is my great idea, the inspiration came from a card Rachel Tessman of Stamp Your Art Out sent me.  (Thank you Rachel)  I thought this paper was just so perfect for this technique, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity!  Everything I used is from Stampin’ Up…more details to come in my follow-up posts.

Next we have the Peek-A-Boo technique.  I changed it up a bit from the samples I saw on-line; making mine a mini peek-a-boo.  I liked the samples I saw, but I like this little mini just as much.

Quilt of Life wm 1

The last technique is the Drapery Fold.  There are a number of variations for this technique; this is the one I opted to try:

Hi that's all wm 1

Now  you’re off to visit with the talented Wilma. I, for one, can’t wait to see her cards because I saw a sneak peek and I know they’re gonna be awesome.  I hope you had fun and thanks for stopping by.  See you next month with another technique!

Here’s the full line-up in case you get lost:

I’ve entered one or more of these cards in the following challenges:

I always enjoy your creations. Your peek-a-boo with the spool of thread is my favorite. It is so cute . . . just love the colors and the paper. Unique that you have the card on the side with the peek-a-boo on the end. I’ll definitely have the try that some time.

  2. Beautiful cards! I think the mini peek a boo is my favorite of all 3. It was great hopping with you again and thanks for the comment on my cards on my blog.

I like that mini idea, too! You’re very welcome. I hope all is well with you…you’re in my thoughts and prayers!

I just love all of your wonderful techniques and the fabulous cards you come up with too! I have to check out the peek a boo and the drapery techniques- love your work!!!

    • Kim&Katy says:

Thanks, Shelly! Love yours, too, but I haven’t visited in a bit. I’ll have to come ’round soon!

  4. foleysfriend says:

I agree with the others; your mini peek a boo is just darling! So very clever! Great job with the other “fold” cards.

  5. Uhhh-mazing! You are so clever! The hot air balloon and the thread spool are my absolute favorites and I love what you did with the mini peek-a-boo. A pleasure hopping with you as always. I will pass on the Candy as we do not have that event near me but I know someone will be lucky to win it!

Thanks so much Sharon! I’m sorry you couldn’t participate in the candy…didn’t think about that when I offered it!

  6. Jodie says:

Love the drapery fold card~~ Very pretty~~

  7. Wilma says:

Wow, Kim, what beautiful cards. I can’t decide if I like the mini peek-a-boo better, or that gorgeous double drapery card. Great job!

  8. Denise Sayers says:

They are all great cards. I especially love the mini peek-a-boo with the thread. I could even see a “seam” leading up to the reveal and might have to C.A.S.E. that.

  9. Claudia Henderson says:

These are all wonderful cards Kim and I love the “stitch” one, how clever. Working with all these folds was fun, but I have to admit too I like some more than others. Great idea to place a hot air balloon on the z-fold. Like always is was a pleasure hopping with you 🙂

  10. Oh my gosh – I love that stitching card. I am definitely copying that one for sure! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

    • Kim&Katy says:

Thanks, Michelle. If you do, I suggest you snip the tip off the needle when using it on the card…that tip is sharp…ask me how I know 😉

  11. Wanda Rule says:

Love your cards! The fold designs are beautiful!

  12. Gracie says:

Ooo wee – I love the spool! They all are beautiful!

    • Kim&Katy says:

Thanks, Gracie! That’s about as close as I’ll get to sewing. Denise gave me a great tip for the next one and that’s to make a seam up to the cut! Genius!

  13. Your cards are amazing, I can’t pick a favorite. Very creative!

  14. JenniferE says:

Holy cow! Such great cards! Love that all…great colors and pps! I love to use brads but unfortunately I’m in NJ.

    • Kim&Katy says:

Sorry about that. Apparently NJ doesn’t play well with others. Perhaps it’s because they are changing the venue.

  15. Enjoying all these awesome fold ideas along the hop! Beautiful cards! Love the mini peek-a-boo card you made!
